We made it!

Anouk and I finally made it! After almost 36 hours of non-stop traveling we landed at Auckland International Airport. I was wondering whether our luggage had made it all the way from Brussels to Auckland, but my worries proved rather unfounded: as soon as we had cleared customs both our bags were there waiting for us!

After that we had to clear the biohazard checks – New Zealand takes protecting its fauna and flora very seriously. After having been sniffed by beagles and having declared our hiking boots we were allowed through.

We hopped into a taxi and made our way to the Sebel hotel in the centre of Auckland. As we were on a honeymoon, the clerk gave us an upgrade to an even better room! It was complete with a huge double bed, a nice bathroom, a kitchen and a big sitting room. In the sitting room there were two large sliding windows leading onto a small terrace with a table and two chairs. The terrace had a lovely view overlooking the Auckland harbour and yacht marina.

Our original plan was to stay up until about 22:00 and go to sleep, but by about 19:30 we were both in bed fast, fast asleep.
